Red Eft Newt Limited Edition Print
Red Eft Newt, Notophthalmus viridescens
This almost fluorescent colored newt is common in the Eastern United States. The Red Eft is the name for their land phase when they can be seen crawling across wet grass. They live in ponds and vernal pools. Like many other brightly- colored creatures, they produce a poison in their skin called tetrodoxin which protects them from predators.
